EMSA Updates:

  • Last week the TERN and MERI teams ran a pilot 3-day EMSA training workshop. We covered many elements of EMSA, including the rationale for the program, Monitor app installation and pre-field preparation, and field-based training for modules such as Plot Selection and Layout, Plot Description, Floristics, Cover and Photopoints. The TERN EMSA team is looking forward to visiting the NRM regions this year to meet ecologists and practitioners, see your field sites and run these workshops with you.

From the Tech team:

  • Before you clear your browsing data stop and check your Monitor app. When you install the Monitor app it remains linked to the browser from which it is downloaded. That means that it also uses the data storage abilities of the app. When you are inputting data into incomplete and un-synced collections, all of your information is being stored inside the browser.
    • If the browser is cleared, even by another user, then you will lose any in-progress collections and any that are awaiting syncing. If you are unsure if it is safe to clear your browsing data please speak to your IT department before doing so, or contact the EMSA Support team with any questions.
  • If you encounter any issues, bugs, freezing or crashes in the app please notify the tech team via a ticket as soon as possible. Issues may look like an error message or even a blank screen like the screenshot below.
    • Not sure how to take a screenshot? if you are using an Android device, try simultaneously holding down the power button and the volume down button. This should save an image to your photo gallery which you can then send to our team. Working on a Windows computer? Have a look here to learn how to take a screenshot: Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots - Microsoft Support

  • What is a 'Context'?
    • The 'context' is displayed at the top of the Monitor projects page and is the specific combination of the project, plot and plot visit. When any of these 3 things are changed, the plot context changes.  As data collected is tied to a specific plot context, changing the plot context when an open survey has not been completed and queued for submission and then attempting to continue the survey may result in a context error. For this reason it is important to check that you are in the correct context prior to beginning a survey. More details on 'context' were in the January 31st 2025 blog here.
